Two nationwide searches for city manager, ending with a Yukon native

After terminating City Manager Tammy Kretchmar without cause in May 2024, the Yukon City Council ran an open, nationwide search -- a 30-day posting that drew 35 applications, narrowed through video review and on-site interviews -- and on a 3-1 vote August 20, 2024 hired Dr. Mike Castro, a West Point-trained, ICMA-credentialed city manager with 25+ years of municipal experience. Castro led the city's response to the forensic audit's governance reforms before announcing his resignation in May 2025, timed to coincide with completion of the city's annual budget, to take a position closer to family. The council then ran a second nationwide search -- 45 applications, including nine candidates who had also applied in 2024, and seven finalists interviewed at a special Saturday council meeting -- and on June 6, 2025 voted 4-1 to appoint Jeff Deckard, a Yukon High School graduate with 16 years of city service across Public Works, Parks and Recreation, and utility maintenance, as City Manager.
