OG&E franchise renewal advances to a vote of the people
The City Council adopted Ordinance No. 1487 on March 3, 2026, granting Oklahoma Gas & Electric Company a 25-year franchise to produce, transmit, distribute, and sell electricity within Yukon in exchange for compensation to the city. A companion resolution called a special ratification election for August 25, 2026, putting the franchise renewal directly to Yukon voters. The franchise protects roughly $1 million a year in city revenue. As of early September 2026, election results had not yet been reported.
What it means: Puts the renewal of roughly $1 million a year in franchise revenue directly to a vote of Yukon residents.
