Route 66 Centennial Sign completed and dedicated

The Yukon City Council awarded a $160,360 bid on May 19, 2026 for an illuminated Route 66 Centennial sign at 313 W. Main St. It was built through Yukon Public Arts as an interdepartmental effort — Public Works, Park Maintenance, Streets and Special Projects — working with Metro Sign and donated local materials. The sign was dedicated with a ribbon cutting on August 21, 2026. The City Manager reported international visitors, including travelers from Spain, stopping at the sign the day before the ceremony.

What it means: A landmark that is already drawing international Route 66 tourism to downtown Yukon.
