There is nothing like 'on the job' training

"These are the nations the Lord left to test all those Israelites who had not experienced any of the wars in Canaan (he did this only to teach warfare to the descendants of the Israelites who had not had previous battle experience): the five rulers of the Philistines, all the Canaanites, the Sidonians, and the Hivites living in the Lebanon mountains from Mount Baal Hermon to Lebo Hamath." ~ Judges 3:1-4

With NO experience in government prior to May 14, I have been drinking from a firehose.

Other than paying my taxes and a traffic ticket here and there, I had little to no interaction with any form of government.

There is nothing like "on the job" training. In fact, it is God's preferred method of training.

With God, the parentheses are the point. Read that parentheses from Judges again...

"He did this only to teach warfare to the descendants of the Israelites who had not had previous battle experience."

While the on-the-job training from being elected, sworn in, and then conducting the city council meetings every other week is nothing like war, these activities have definitely been filled with teaching moments.

There is nothing like being thrown into the arena to make you learn quickly. There will always be those who will criticize you while you are in the arena but the fact-of-the-matter is that you are in the arena—facing the battle each day.

We are all learning and I am proud of what we have accomplished in a short time. We will continue working for our City and for you the residents to improve our community delivering solid infrastructure, top-notch municipal services and an outstanding quality of life in our great city.

When have you benefited from "on the job" training?
